Hey mate,
I'm off to PNG in a fortnight on a fishing/surfing trip and wondered how you thought a shimano baitrunner 6500 with 50 pound braid would hold up on 20kg GT's?
If you think it wouldn't hold up, what would you recommend?
Cheers
Marlino
Oh mumma I gotta go there
My little brother looks like marrying a native Fijian (is that right) and her dad said to my parents that seeing that we're going to be family we're allowed onto the island where see comes from. Excellent I says as it's a closed island and only locals allowed on it.
So that's New Caledonia and Fiji sorted but run out of family to marry off
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good
snapper.....is a Maori snapper, Lutjanus rivulatus
Thanks Dinga.
Yes been identified as a Maori Sea perch.
Pete
Well done mate, all those photo's have made me want to head back again. I'll be calling you before I go again. How good is that place!!!!
So Pete, you going out to chase some bream today
Mate youre not wrong.
Look at this photo of the water over there....Arrrrghhh I could throw poppers every day over there I reckon and never get sick of it.
This is the shallow stuff where I got red bass, bluefin trevs etc....But no GT's here.
All those darker patches are coral and the fish try to stitch you up VERY quickly in them....Its not a place for light gear.
Pete
livin' the dream mate good stuff...as soon as things settle down at work and the house is built that'll be me somewhere off cairns....
very very nice mate awesome pics, that big half black bass half snapper fish is awesome would love to target them they are a fantastic looking fish, always wanted to target the red bass on poppers too but have not got around to do so yet.u have got me very geed for my trip in 3 weeks, cheers.
Great pic Pete That thing's got lips like Angelina Jolie! Brilliant markings around his head.

Fishing for the thrill, not for the kill
Thats insane Pete, i am drooling here, trip of a lifetime!
was this a chartered type operation or did you just hire a boat over there and hit up the reef's?
No mate I just went out with one of the locals.
He had never done popper fishing before and was even more excited than me when he saw the hits on the poppers.
Fishing for most of the fijians is just trolling.
They troll for all the pelagics wahoo, yellowfin, striped tuna and marlin.
They are obsessed with 'Rapala's' and ever lure they see they call a 'Rapala'...
Its quite funny actually...Thats all they talk about...'Rapala's....
