    Surface Action

    Hi,

Caught these fish on surface lures in the Caloundra end of the passage, fishing the shallows with areas of yabbie beds and weed producing the best results. ALso caught about 30 bream on plastics fishing a weed bed but it was ankle deep water and didnt want to drop the camera.

Are those whiting skinny or is it just the camera playing tricks? They all look fairly lenghty bu don't seem to have any shoulders on them.

Was this a completely landbased expedition or did you boat it to a more isolated section of the passage?

Nice one meepee, Lots of fun on the poppers those big whiting. Did the flatty get airborne when he hit it? Ben

    Re: Surface Action

Yer the flattie sure did, i caught it in water which was lucky to be 15-20cm deep. Nah i used my boat to get to the spot, then parked it on the sand and waded as the water level was too low to get the boat in. Ended up with about 20-25 fish in that surface session, the bigger fish liked the bubble pop but they were going crazy for the ecogear px45. The whiting were pretty skinny (but not as skinny as they look in the shots) but that doesnt stop then going hard in shallow water, they fight sooo hard in the shallow stuff. Didnt measure the fish as they were all released but the biggest was about 37cm, but most were around 33-34cm.

    Re: Surface Action

Great post and looks like you had a lot of fun....we're in Armidale right now but will be having 3 weeks at Bribie next month with the van and the tinnie.....we'll have to give the poppers a go...who would have thought that a whiting would think it could really devour a fish of the size of the popper?????
    Cheers

    Re: Surface Action

Rick, I'm pretty sure they think they are attacking prawns, not fish. Ben
