    Lucky Cobe

Hey fisher I know technically it should b in the offshore section but anywhere u take a 4.1 I class as estuary! Headed out the south port seaway in search of the cobia! Met up with salt doggie to travell out together, went 2 a few different reefs couldnt find alot of bait so we persisted till we found some caught a few livies had one out while rigging up the second one my bro inlaw was ringing up another livie wat I thought was a noah followed it up and took the livie right infront of us! after thinking for a few minutes thoght crap that was a cobia wenseonds later the rod with a whole dead squid started squeeling so i set the hook and the drag and let my bro inlaw fight it!after around 5 mins a metre+ cobe comes up missed it with the net for hime only 2 take another 30m of line got him up again and in the net wen the landing net broke only to see the cobe sinking still in the netwen he spat the hook ! oh well still great 2 c!
Not much else after that a only small trag, eventually headed back while crossing the bar i threw outa tt blade to have it smashed after a few seconds after a good little fight a small bonny comes up! A first 4 me
all in all a good day out on the water!
    Cheers Simon

Bad luck on the cobe simon. At least you know where to go back to get them now. I also have a 4.1 with a 40hp and have considered taking it out from the seaway. Do boats that size handle conditions out there ok?

Sounds like a fun day. Shoulda gaffed the cobe if he was nearing the 1m mark.

    hey scarby
cheers! On sat the swell was around 2.5m and we had a 4.1 brooker with reasonalby high sides and my salt doggy had a 4.2 quiny explorer we both handled it well but it is really daunting especially wen u first try and cross the bar! The biggest thing is being aware wer u r and cautious of the waves as soon as they start breaking im out of there!

Hey loophole a gaff would of bn the way to go but if im not using wat im catching for bait its catch n release!
    Cheers Simon

    Re: Lucky Cobe

i only saw him from about 10 metre's away, but that was one of the biggest coolest fish i've seen, it was pretty cool to watch you guys fight to get him up would've loved to have seen him out of the water, lol when we got back to the boat ramp we realised we had put a gaff on the boat that morning, douche bags lol , but i guess if you were gonna catch and release it wouldn't have mattered! Cheers for showing me the outer area's of the goldy rat king, definately tested the limits of the boat, oh yeah, if you guys wanna see whales...don't pay whatever you pay to go on those whale watching boats, get in your tinny/boat and head out from the sea way, i reckon we would have seen about 5 pods of whales...scary shit in a 4.2 tinny lol!!
