Just returned from a five day fishing hike with six good mates down the Herbert River Gorge in north Queensland.
The walk near killed us in terms of physical exertion especially the walk in down 1000 ft from the surrounding plateau. However the wild river scenery, fishing, camp fire tucker and shared times with good mates made it all worth while.
The fishing was great as well, a million sooties and enough barra to keep us on our toes with relatively light spin sticks. We only got a few keeper barra (enough for some very memorable feeds) but had a lot of sport with sub legal sized fish (45 - 58 cm).
This place remains etched on your brain forever and is highly recommended to anyone who rates the place as much of the experience as the fish. NB be fit and pack light <10kg (lighter than we did) if you want to keep the trip enjoyable as possible.
Regards and tight lines - Jim
