i think a big ray , or a bigger bull shark (river whaler ) .
i have nearly been spooled once and it wasnt my rod it was my mates and when i saw the backing i locked up the real to save the braid , it gets the heart pumpin . what size hook were you using ?

I've had the same problem previously on 30lb line and spooled once on consecutive days using live herring in the same spot landbased in the Barron River, Cairns!

I've been told that it would be a huge jew fish but as I have never caught one I don't know. But reading these posts I would have to say that it was probably a huge ray which I have caught plenty of but not with that much vegemite though...

LoL, I was thinking the same thing, no wonder you didn't get many bites after that, you had no line on your reel
