So put away approx 1200 bucks for the part rebuild. If you dont believe me ring around some of the gearbox rebuilders.

I'm guessing it's a Manuel box if so do you do a lot of towing and what gear are you towing in

the boxes may be indentical in design apart from the gearset

    Re: Mazda Bt50 owners

If the gearset is different they are not identical.

    Re: Mazda Bt50 owners

Goes to show what you know snatch smarta** the ratio is differant due to the extra power of the 3ltr motor. The gear shafts and placement of the oil lube holes is the same. The neddle roller on the end of lay shaft selecter 1st & 2nd does not get enough oil fead to it which in turn wheres on the shaft or in the worst case seizes on the shaft making the shaft useless.
Usually when its gets to this stage it then tears the hub from the 3rd & 4th gear cluster totally distroying the gearbox.
I have posted this on he to imform people what they mite be in for in the future not for smartasses to bag other peoples coments.
If i didnt do my homework on this vehicle i would have one as well .
By the way have a good look at the door skins and you will notice the pull marks from factory, if you cant see them get a panel beater to point it out to you. !!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. Sensitive . If the ratios are different they are not identical . Wake up. I didn't say anything about the housing did I? Over reaction on your part. Smarta***! P.S someone else pointed out the ratios were different . Go attack him.

just because you had an issue with the box doesn't mean everyone will. Sometimes a simply change of oil specs fixes that type of issue.

yeah but when someone fails to read a post properly then throws 2c in bout something that they are not comprehending properly and something they obviously know nothing about then more power to em. I think flattyfinder said it pretty well.

    Re: Mazda Bt50 owners

I have heard about navara gearbox faults, hilux gearbox faults and triton gearbox faults. Now Mazda....is there any that dont have gearbox faults?

BTW, I read in the paper recently about the state government bringing in a lemon law. Cant remember the details but it protects new car buyers if they get a car that has to be continually returned for warentee work.

    Re: Mazda Bt50 owners

As pointed out above , there are gearbox problems with most of the makes so what does it matter?

The original point was that the gearboxes are the same and they are not. If the ratios are different then they are different. The link below says the transmission is new. It is a mazda site.

Anyway, whatever. I don't care to be honest. I'd still buy one. The people that I have spoken to about them are stoked with their cars. The dude with the oil problem may just be unlucky.

No one said it was identical they are the same housing, same gearshafts ,layshafts and bearings just diff ratio to suit higher torque engine

    Re: Mazda Bt50 owners

    G'day,

A lesson learned. The latest generation diesels have low boost turbos that deliver pretty much instant torque off the line. It's needed to comply with EURO4. The drivelines behind these engines haven't changed much so all the torque and lead foot acceleration will cause destruction. There are two exception but I'm not advertising brands here.

Do not re-chip the engines and do not remove any part of the exhaust, especially the catalyst on the EURO3 step 2 or EURO4 models. It's illegal.

Drive it like a Morris Minor! It will last forever.
