    Mazda Bt50 owners

Guys, I have just bought a new BT50 dual cab Dx. It seems to be quite noisy cold and also makes more diesel clatter with the clutch in and releasing the clutch just as you take off. Is this normal? I have taken it back at the 1000 service and the dealer said all is ok. Very happy with the power and economy. I have always had toyotas but the current run out sale for the dual cab ($29,990) was too good a deal, almost $20,000 less than the same model Toyota hilux from my local dealers.
    Thanks Mal.

Just bought one myself , if yours has a problem then so has mine . I traded in a landcruiser ute and can't believe the difference in power and speed , got my first speeding ticket yesterday ( apparently i was doing 83 in a 60 zone ) cost me $250.
Work takes me all over the state so the extra comfort and ride of the Mazda is very much welcomed . Had it 4 weeks and have clocked up 8800 klms .

    Happy driving

Thanks for the replies, I also traded a Dx landcruiser wagon, great car solid and many years of reliable service. Decided to go for a dual cab and found negatives and positives in all of the makes. The mazda won me with price, power, towing capacity, and aproach and departure angles. None are made in Japan any longer and I had the Hilux as first choice (just brand loyal from previous experience) but could not justify the extra dollars. Have to agree with the above the mazda drives very well apart from the slightly bumpy rear end. So far average fuel economy is 9 lt to 100 km. Looks like you will wear yours out a lot quicker than me ( 100,000 + per year by my calculations)

Checked mine with my handheld GPS 97km at 100 km, still 3 ks out. DX has 15 inch rims and SDX has 16 inch rims and the 15 inch has a slightly higher profile tyre to almost match the 16 inch rolling diameter (2% less for the 15 inch by a tyre calculator), so I would imagine its been fixed and the SDX would be spot on.

When my navara is due for trade I will be getting a mazda. I have spoken to a few guys that have them and they love them. I took one for a test drive and the power is great.

I rest my case about the toyotas being way overpriced. IMO you bought a better vehicle anyway.

I am just going to wait for the next model though. It is around 15% more powerful than the current model.

I made mine ever better than standard. I removed the standard air filter and installed a K&N one, then removed the middle section of the exhaust now you can really hear the turbo whine really sounds great and the power in great.

can you tell i really love my Ute

Bad news for all you mazda/ford bt50 ranger owners i have a 2000 mod and have had the gearbox first and second shaft and bearings replaced at 150 thous ks and now have to do it again at 206 thous ks , unfortunately mazda has not changed the gearbox and is still using the same one. this goes for petrol and deisel vehicles 2wd and 4wd. So put away approx 1200 bucks for the part rebuild. If you dont believe me ring around some of the gearbox rebuilders.

I can also tell you that an unnamed mazda sales rep has told me of a formal complaint back to mazda Australia, as they are having a lot of new vehicles comming back with problems, some minor and some not so Pm for details if you wish. I was keen on trading mine in on another but not now think i will be looking at the nissan instead. l

I agree with you, i have had some issues with mine like front shocks and one seat belt but which car manufacture does not have any faults. my mate owns a Toyota and his has been back twice and my parents own a 08 BMW and its been back once. I really dont think that any of then can say the make a perfect car or truck.

    Just my 2 cents worth

    Joe

PS: to me it's how the fix the problem that counts,

Comparing the 2000 model to the new one is like comparing a kids lego to the building of the pyramids. It just ain't even worth the comparison.

snatch the 2000 mod is the same right up to 2006/7 .The major change is ONLY the diesel engine to commom rail cpu. So we are now comparing the 2006/7 to the 08 model !!!!

If the gearbox remains unchanged how come the ratios are completly different

    Mazda bravo 1999-2006
    1, 3.401
    2, 2.048
    3, 1.312
    4, 1.00
    5, 0.791
    reverse 3.401
    final drive 4.10

    BT 50
    1, 3.905
    2, 2.248
    3, 1.491
    4, 1.00
    5, 0.80
    reverse 3.391
    final drive 3.727

If your gearbox rebuilders are saying they are the same I dont think i would like them rebuilding mine.
