sounder decision - humminbird v lowrance

hey guys,

ive narrowed my decision on a sounder down to 2 options,

i dont want to spend anymore than $400

1. Lowrance X96 from the states.

or

2 Humminbird 717/727 locally,

can anyone comment on the two options....
in the past i had lowrance and was pretty happy, and have heard a few bad things about humminbird but in saying that not all lowrance feedback has been positive,

any tips appreciated

you'll hear good and bad things about every sounder product on the market.

but from those 2 options i'd go with the 727 as later on you can add the GPS module so you can then enable chartplotting.

i've had the 727 and it really is an awesome unit for a B&W. if thats your budget then you won't be dissapointed.

just remember, Humminbird transducers like to be a little lower in the water than what the instructions will tell you

Don't know if the $$ is still going to make your purchase a worthy one.. might wanna check the local prices before they go up to

yellahunter I am also in the market and you can't really go past the furuno 4100 for around the $440 mark, just an idea it has awesome features and is a solid unti, I was looking at the Lowrance x125 but am going with the 4100 but have a look around at the lowrance x125 for around the 420 is mark also.... just some ideas, it has been eating at me for weeks. That Humminbird 727 can come with a quad beam transducer for max botom coverage.
the falling Aussie will make anything from the US not as attractive as it was a few months ago.

well with the dollar at about 68 cents I cant believe it is cheaper to buy from Fishon or anyone in USA....try Mr Boats online or Trymax Bris..?

Try down to nearly 64c to the USD this evening!! Bouncing a little now but still under 66c at present. Talk of a global rate cut might help it bounce a little more yet!

Will be very interesting to see if the Aussie retailers have put their prices up in the wake of the plummetting Aus$, the stock-on-hand would theoretically be worth more now?
