Thats great news. I hope they spread it out and don't put it all in one area.
This swhould be normal maintenance for an arti and certainly should not be part of the "new" reefs that have been promised

    Re: Harry's reef being expanded

    Hi all

There have been a number of meetings over the past couple of months with EPA regarding the artificial reefs proposed for the bay as "offsets" to the green zones to be expanded in the Bay. MBAA reps have been at those meetings.

I had been waiting for an update from our rep on this group before posting info here on Ausfish, however this announcement via the Notice to Mariners appears to confirm EPA's indication to MBAA that Harry's would be a priority location and would be revitalised/extended in this process.

As for the materials to be used, it seems likey that they will be deploying the "reef balls" which are a purpose designed atri reef system made of special concrete, in several different sizes.

    That's good, BUT:

So far we've been unable to get committments to them beyond their proposal to extend/uograde Harry's, so for all we currently know this might be the only arti we get out of this exercise, which if it ends up that way would be a disgrace. One revitalised atri is not going to go anywhere near compensating the rec fishing sector for the losses to the proposed green zones. Not even close!

But we will have to see how things unfold in the coming weeks to find out more.

I have made some calls to find out the latest and will post a new thread when I have some more info to share.

And once they've put it there, you'll be banned from taking any Snapper off it for 4 months per year?
