Maroon 4th October
Howdy ausfishers,Steven 78 and I decided today we would visit Maroon dam for a quick arvo session on the bass population.
Arrived at 2-30pm and launched dodging a few ski boats before heading up into the sticks area for some peace and quiet.
We cast around the timber and towards the bank for not even a touch.
The wind was gusting to 20 knots off and on so that made drifting with the electric a real task.
We did find a spot out of the wind for awhile but this was in full sunshine and only a couple of metres deep.
We gave up on this spot and headed back towards the timber again and by now the sun had started to fall in the sky giving good shady areas to cast into.
We threw everything at them but the place seemed almost dead.
Saw a few whirl pools now and then but still no takers.
Suns about to set so we slowly make our way back to the boat ramp.
The sounder was showing arches in the deep water so the jackall replicas started there decent towards the bottom.
Bingo!! mine gets a hit and ye ha i have my first bass for the day.
We motor on around to a small bay where we have caught fish in the past and out goes that jackall replica once more.
A few cranks and a second bass starts pulling drag off the reel.
By this time its almost pitch black and we can only just make out the boat ramp in the distance so we called it a night.
Steve and I are starting to find our way around this dam now so" look out mr bass we shall return another day"
Cheers Brent
