Yeh mate, my old man got fined for it while fishing offshore from Noosa. Not quite sure, but I think the fine was about $250
When you go reef fishing now days all those things you need to remember like
Size, bag limit, fishing zones etc. In keeping with the fisheries guide lines. Has any one been pull up for not having the petrel fin cut off & been fined? Easy to forget in the heat of the moment.
I believe before you put your catch in the ice box you must cut this fin off to prove
what or should I say why. Dose this happen in other states as well.
Your help would be appreciated.

I've been caught, but not fined. The fish was one out of about 10, it being the only one with both pectoral fins intact, I guess the fisheries bloke used a bit of common sense, he just said I'd missed one, and could I cut it off now. Easy done. I guess its just a matter of the type of inspector and whether or not they've been having a shit of a day.
will not happen in other states, it is a QLD thing only.
surely one fish wont be the subject of a black market ring.. but anyway... queenslanders are a lil slower than us nsw folk
jokes...
Thanks to every one who gave me an answer on this post.
It dose seem stupied that why we do this in Qld but I never catch enough to enter the black market any way.

East to forget in the heat of the moment, I now do a check when I pull up stumps to head home. SummerTrance, it's a shame Terry got fined as he is a stickler when it comes to fishing regs.
Dignity,
He was out with Andrew and they were still out fishing on the reef, and hadnt got to it yet. I think they just got the one fine between them and split it.
It only stops people selling the whole fish on the sly. It doesn't stop them selling the fillets, but at least it slows things down.
