    Tanmurra Creek

Been a while since I got out to the salt water, too interested in freshwater barra to make the effort I guess. Thought I’d chance a trip to Tanmurra Creek north of Kununurra yesterday since it's been good to me in the past and I wanted to have a quick look for an overnight trip in a couple of week’s time that being planned.

The boat ramp has had some significant improvements made; a new 44gallon drum has been installed at the side of the ramp so you pick the place on your return amongst the bush. We had a better than average launch and retrieval because the tide was high on both occasions. Any lower and the trailer disappears into the mud so you have to drop the boat off into the mud, spin it around and then slide it down the rest of the bank into the water. Note the third wheel, a big help on these styles of launches.

Despite what looked to be good conditions fishing was slow, we found only one half decent snag complex with enough water around it to fish, had a couple of fish take a momentary interest in proceedings but their attention was fleeting. That appeared to be the story of the day, saw more tailing fish then we hooked. As the tide dropped we found more snags but they had no water around them so we fished the gutters as they emptied. Only two had fish that were interested, though more held fish. One gutter gave us about 40 minutes of joy with two dropped, one landed and a few hits. No fish out of that system hooked up in the mouth, rather on the cheek plates.

Ended up with a fish for a feed each and a nice mulloway dropped when all else failed when we resorted to soaking a bait in the late afternoon.

A fair effort only for a full day that had us leaving and getting back in the dark. The drive itself is five hours both ways, some of the bog holes track still wet from rain ten days ago.
