WHOA!!!! Nice Flatty's there! Wish I could catch some that were even half that size.
As the Flatty Classic approaches I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and hook in! This flathead season has been a bumper with large numbers of breeding females taking lures and strip baits arcoss the Gold Coast willingly.
Yesterday we managed to luck up with 4 quality sized keepers just below the 70cm and released about a dozen between 40cm and 60cm, aswell as a breeder that was also released fit and healthy.
Here are some pictures of yesterdays catch...
Below are some more large breeders caught over the last month, all released as always. The big breeding females have been so thick this season that even the wife has landed a few!

Have been meaning to get out for a flattie sess my self lately, you've just given me the motivation.
What lures have you been using? and cast / retrieve or trolling?
mate well done!.......there is some crackers there......seems to be quite a few big girls around down the your way at the moment......seems the slot limit is really working which means it will only get better...who said u only get finals fever in september, flattie fever gives me a twitch the doctor can't treat......Keep up the good work.... if my missus was catching fish that big she would be wearing a life jacket as well....let u all guess why?

Great fish SS, I'm in the Classic for my 1st attempt, really have no idea what I'm doin but what better way to learn, I'd be stoked if I snag one of those big girls over the 2 1/2 days, you're obviously a contender, Cheers, Jamie.
Nice fish,but why keep the larger ones that are probably breeding females and not keep the smaller fish?Cheers Jamie

Just of note re the Breeders, Fisheries have now discovered that not ALL big Flatties are breeders... I can see a rule change coming up soon...

top fish mate, the big girls are about for those who know how to catch them. You keep coming up with winners, Id say youve done it a few times before?
My missus only comes fishing in daytime too. Youre lucky if they like a fish now and then, it helps them understand the long nights when I go out alone.
