boat minder- only $40 a day
hey mate. get a river to see bubble pop 35 in the clear. find some sand banks and give it a constant but steady "bloop" across the surface . in coming tide seems to work the best too. nick
i like a larger popper like the rebel pop R in clear or smith crystle sinking popper 35mm when there a bit finiky.
as abbot says a steady bloop accross the surface works best.
a walk the dog reteve is when the lure ''zig zags'' accross the surface
i see so clear seems to be the general consensus? iv only got a couple of poppers because i have never been able to catch a fish with them before and none of them are clear. thats ok another stop in at bcf during work tomorow will fix that.

mate other colours do work, its just that the clear seems to get the best results when they are a bit fineky
try the new stiffy popper.
ive had a couple of days out were the pop-r's werent fooling anything.
i just found it in my bag and thought what the hell just give it a swim. i didnt think it would work cause its a tad bigger...but and it went off.
i want to give them a shake myself this summer, what line classes are a good starting point? im presuming as light as possible on the leader 2lb or so? and ive heard its best to use mono as opposed to fluro and smear in vaseline or something?
have been looking at making my own poppers out of wood and today i found a cheap way to produce them one of my old girls at the aged care fascility showed me a necklace made of wooden beads about 3 cm long perfect size for poppers told me you can get any size you want at the bead shop probably painted twist up some wire and aeraldite in and hey presto cheap poppers beads are worth about 50 cents each coop
If you re after whiting a short 50 -60cm leader between 8 - 16 lb is good for whiting. It makes the lure track alot straighter (which is great of whiting) and gives a better hook up. I use 2lb fireline crystal with a short 8lb leader.
If you are fishing a walk the dog lure or trying to catch bream a rod lenght + 4lb leader is what i use.
I catch alot of fish on surface lures over the flats (got about 50 + fish in the last three mornings) it is an awesoe way to fish and a lot of fun
on the surface theres no need to go lighter than 4lb.
in most areas its best to use 8-12lb purely because by-catches such as flatties, queenies, etc are common.
mono or fluro is personal preference.
if u use fluro i guess its better to go lighter cause it sinks a tad on the pause, and can spook if running heavy.
i tend to use 8-10lb mono, running off 2lb cyrstal fireline.
a dream to cast small poppers all day.
