Eagle EHR-10 Handheld VHF - $99
Hi everyone,
Anyone bought or used one of these units ?
One of the local boat stores has them on sale for $99. I think at that price they may be a cheap safety feature for a small tinnie.
Details here - http://www.eaglenav.com/en/Products/VHF-Radios/LHR-20/
Something very intereting to note is the webpage link. Notice the LHR-20 at the end of the address. This is the Lowrance lhr-20 I'm assuming which is about twice the price. Could this be the usual cheaper rebadged Eagle version of the Lowrance ?

Re: Eagle EHR-10 Handheld VHF
Similar radios, but the Lowrance has a Li Ion battery which is much better. The NiMH batteries self discharge, where the Li Ion ones don't(well very very slowly anyway). So unless you recharge it regularly you could get caught out with a flat battery, whereas the Li Ion will stay charged for a bloody long time.
Consider also how close your nearest VHF contact will be in case of emergency. These only have 5 Watts output and a small antenna, a non handheld model has 25 watts output and a much more efficient antenna. It is cheap at $99 though!

As I was considering this for my tinnie, I don't think I'd be all that far from VMR at all, unless I'm up a creek system somewhere that might block out some signal. Would be interesting to listen to at times as well.
Anyone else had experience with handheld VHF's - any comments on their performance ?
