    Snot Weed Report Anyone?

G'day everyone. It has been a while since I have been able to go out in the bay but the last few times I went out there was an overwhelming presence of that cursed snot weed. Before I head out again soon I was wondering if anyone who has been out there in recent times would be so kind as to give me the heads up on the snot weed. Is it still around?

    Thanks in advance,

    Poodroo

    Hey Poodroo,

We fished the Pin yesterday for 7 hours and in all that time only had the jig come back once with some "snot" on it. I would say its all but gone. That little bit that is around has gone from being green in colour to a dark brown, so I guess its dieing off.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

I fished Thursday and Sunday for Flathead with soft plastics (so I was always o n the bottom) and I hardly got any. I was fishing the Pin down to Jacobs Well and it was only in some really shallow, out of the flow spots that had a bit of weed. The small amount I did get was brown - we guessed the brown colour indicated it had died and assumed most had floated away.

I was fishing similar areas to the last couple of months and there was heaps of weed back then, so signs are great.

    Good Luck

Well that's encouraging guys. Thanks. Looking at Seabreeze conditons are looking favourable to head out on the weekend. After all this wind of late it is going to be a pleasant change just to get out but if I bring home a feed that is just going to top things off nicely. Thanks for the replies.

    Poodroo,

I took the jetski for a cruise on sunday off wello to peel and the water in the bay looked spotless from the surface...

Can't tell what down deeper is like though

Bermo82 this is half the problem. The water has been too clean. Snot weed is an algae and it thrives in just the right conditions. With the shortage of rain the clarity of the water is spotless allowing sunlight to better penetrate the shallow reefs. WIth the right water conditions and the increased level of sunlight the snot weed has gone crazy. If we get some decent rain the water will cloud up and less visability means less sun penetration which generally kills off the snot weed. I don't think the fish like it nor do they like the conditions to be so clear so they head out deeper. Well the snapper do anyway.

    Hey guys,
thanks for the reports. Heading up to Fraser early October and was wondering if there are any reports of weed on the island?
    Thanks in advance.
