After we leave there its back through brisbane and 4 days down in tenterfield visiting the wifes family and i talked the wife into another fishing side trip we decided to come back to brisbane via the nsw coast ( you cut across 2.30 hour drive) wife used to holliday in ballina as a kid so we staying there for 2 days so any info on rock wall and beaches much appreciated
cheers
Mate, theres a channel 2/3rds of the way out ... On the making tide
i'd fish there !!
Take a couple of no:6 bait jigs, A packet of balloons
& float out some herring ..
The herring are usually right under the pier ....
Just set them a
bout 2m under the balloon .... Also, use about 60lb trace & a 5/0 circle hook.
You should get the odd mac or tuna !!!
thanks for the info ive got the 5/0 circle hooks for the last two months became addicted to gamastu circle hooks
with the ballon i assume i just tie it on with some cotton thread or do i use some of my main line and how much do u blow it
cheers
Sorry mate, i use a snap swivel .. Blow the ballons up to about
the size of a rock melon then hook them to the swivel !!
If you put your line through the swivel twice it won't slip
but the depth is ajustable....
still waiting to here from anybody with advice for ballina is there any ausfish land based ppl from ballina anyadvice about the rockk walls and beaches cheers
if you have a fourby, get the ferry over to south ballina, follow the road to the caravan park and enter the beach there (the caravan park also offers cabins that are quite neat and clean, as is the rest of the park). The beach offers all the species you would expect and you won't have to drive far to find nice formations to fish (the beach is generally pretty quiet too, so the kids can play without the constant worry of fools tearing up and down). You can also fish from the rock walls a short drive from here (no need to get the ferry back again). Never fished from the walls, but the beach is always good and populated with pipis and worms if thats what you want.
Get the ferry across then fish the riverbank about 1k upstream from the ferry. Big balls of fresh worms or big squid baits at night. There are some prettty good jew taken along that stretch.
thanks for the advice guys didnt know there was a ferry in ballina i will defiantly try both spots out. at the moment im packing ie wife packing im just organisng my gear and off to hervey bay tomorrow morning
cheers
