Question Hussey Creek - Bribie Passage

    Hi All

Can anybody give me any info on Hussey Creek in the Bribie Passage. Stuff I would like to know about is the nearest boat ramp and can you get there by road as well?

Anybody who wants to tell me there are fish there, well, I will keep that a secret

There were no fish at Ningi Creek last weekend on the outgoing tide either

    Cheers

    Gday Harry,

The closest ramp would be the one down the end of Roys Rd. Turn right off the highway heading north onto Roys Rd and follow it almost right to the end. Its just a bit of a bank at the side of the road. Been years since I've put a boat in there but I'm pretty sure you still can. Used to get some good crabs out of husseys years ago, but like anywhere now I guess you need to have your special spots.

    Cheers

Hussey Creek has a mud ramp if you have 4wd and dont mind getting sloshed up with really sticky clay mud. Better off launching in either Coochin Creek near the camp grounds, off the end of the road at Roys Landing or at Donnybrook.

Hussey Creek suffers from freshwater inundation quite a lot because its near where the seawater meets almost from both the southern and northern end of the passage so the tides tend to recycle the brackish waters for months. Generally if there has been a big thinderstorm that drops say 100mm in its catchment the creek is fresh for about 10 to 12 weeks before it becomes fairly salty again.

Coochin Creek does not suffer as much because it has a larger water course with Mellum Creek branching off it.

Hussey I have found is either working well or its dead, seldom does it seem average. Mid winter has the highest salinity level and seems to have the best results for me with jacks cod and bream flathead tarpon and tailor generally on the selection for a day up there. Yet to score a "big" fish from there as most seem to be around the kilo max size.

Take your Nuclear powered Aerogard as this place is the home to everything that bites, probably the only place in Aus where horse flies nearly outnumber mossies and come in swarms.

    Jack.
