Hat Head - anyone fished it?
Hi all, we did a reckie down there a while ago, great looking spot with a C/V park on a small estuary and what looks like a reasonable ocean access. There is a well established and maintained ramp and cleaning facilities there so it must be used a far bit. Anyhoo, has anyone fished the area? any marks or close in reef we could sneek out too. Will be going down there first week of NSW school hols so hopefully there will still be some snapper in close. Cheers, and thanks in advance,Pete.

Hi Pete
Have done a lot of fishing at Hat Head over the years.I assume you have a boat. The creek will provide an easy launch and access to the ocean,be mindful of working the tides as the creek bar gets shallow towards low tide.
Spanish and Cobia are caught regularly trolling around the point of Hat Head and it is not unusal to hook up to a few Marlin out a km or two off the point. The bay holds good numbers of lizards and a trip over to Fish Rock will nearly always provide a good feed of yellow tail kingies and the odd squire. You will need to venture out wider to the snapper and pearly grounds.
If the weather turns sour head out to the pont [walk] late afternoon or early morning and try your luck ballooning for spanish or cobes.Good size jewies are also regularly taken from rocks at the point.
If you fancy some drummer [pigs] fishing walk down to the island with some solid tackle, some bread for burly and some dough or cunjey for bait.
Jordans sell fresh bait and I am sure that Vince Jordan will give you some good oil on whats happening.Have a good holiday, the bowling club serves lovely cold beer.
Kind Regards
Hinchy

Hey Hinchy, thanks a heap for the info. I am only fishing out of a 4.5 mtr tinnie so won't b venturing too far. Good oil on the cobes and spaniards, geez we had a cracking run in Coffs this year, as did most places. Always a good backup with the lizards in the bay and i have never known a Bowlo that doesn't serve icey cold refreshments, bet they have a chinese too. Thanks again, Pete.
