Snapper and phases of the moon

Can anyone offer advice about the best and worst times to target Snapper with respect to the phases of the moon?

My fishing mate and I had one of the quietest snapper sessions imaginable recently - it was just a day or so before the full moon. I'm getting the feeling that we should avoid fishing around the full moon...

    Thanks in advance,

I like to fish arfternoons on the lead up to the moon and mornings after the full moon. But maybe thats just cause i like to stare at the moon seems to work though. Usually tend to traget jew on the very top of the moon and the new moon still get snapper though.

Stay well away from a full moon when targeting Snapper. The new moon is when they tend to fire up. I've found that the first few hours after the sun has set or the few hours prior to sun rise when its the new moon is perfect!

Although I live in Victoria and what works down here may be completely different to up north!

Fish the afternoon into the night around the full moon. When the moon is about 1/4 up until it is above is prime time. Around the new moon to 1st quarter fish the morning and through the daylight ours and the fish will bite on the tide changes.

I have found full ,no, new, quarter, half moon phases all catch fish but I also found that the barometer makes the biggest difference for us and not relying on the moon phases ......

I'm definately no expert but my opinion would have to agree with bbss on this one too. I've been taking notes this year in my Tide Guide - I knew that'd come handy for something else.

PS. Like your Avatar - hope you don't lie your reel down in the sand all the time? Cheers, Darren.

    Thanks Fishbait,

Re my Avatar: Yes, I've subsequently learnt to rest the reel the otherway around, so only the point of the handle touches the sand... I don't know what I was thinking at the time. Mind you that reel was lousy anyway - a cheapish Shimano without an airbail system. I've retired it.
