Transducer Frequency For Shallow Waters
Hi all,
Just a quick question... Im trying to decide on a fishfinder. I only have an old tinnie so i dont venture into the deeper stuff. Usually hang around creeks/estuaries etc (around 5 - 10m) Which transducer frequency will give me a better/Wider reading of a shallow bottom? 50khz or 200khz??? Or does it not matter???
Cheers for any help

Re: Transducer Frequency For Shallow Waters
go with the higher frequency's. 200khz is a narrower beam, but better detail. don't look at 50khz for shallow water.
alternatively, look into the Humminbird 700 series units that have quadrabeam. they have teh single frequency straight down and 2 x 455khz frequency's out the side giving good detail and a wider field of few.
next step from here is Humminbird side imaging.
hope this helps

Re: Transducer Frequency For Shallow Waters
forgot to mention, you will have to buy the transducer that will allow for the extra frequency's. it's not side imaging, but i think give you 60 degrees or 90degrees field of few of the bottom with the same detail as your 200khz.
check the humminbird web site for more detail.
