    Brisbane River (not the mouth)

Now i have lived in brissie most of my life, and i have never really fished the brissie river. i drive down corro drive every day to go to work, and to put the boat in on the weekends and i never see anyone fishing it. that tells me possibly two things:

    1) there is no fish in the brissie river worth catching (from bulimba upwards)
    2) or due to the lack of fishing it is an untapped resource.

i only put this forward because i have done a lot of searching online, and asked around quite a bit and have not got a straight or definitive answer on how well the river fishes. we all know about the mouth and how well it fishes for bream, snapper and threadies, but what about further up? there are a lot of rock bars (across from UQ , indooroopilly, the list goes on) and various man made structures in the river that by all rights should hold fish. has anyone fished the upper reaches with any success? or will i have to find out for myself?

Under the motorway and bridges though the city reaches used to be very good for big jew trolled up on large cyalume sticks or large lures at night. Some very deep waters in that area as well that will still hold big jew.

As Jimbo says Mowbray Park used to be a top land based spot as well.

Are there any safe ramps anywhere near the city to launch from these days?

    Jack.

Used to have some cracking shark sessions around capt cook bridge years ago. One night we caught about 30 bullies, scary really to think there is that many toothy critters in the same river we used to swim in (or atleast ride our bikes off the jetty into.)

But since then i haven't spent much time upstream of the gateway. Still, i think you might be right, worth a shot.

    Safe from yobs?

Fig Tree Pocket is OK most nights, not sure you would call it close to the city.
People houses (and one of them is a cop) overlook the ramp area and they tend to call the police if there are drunks down there making racket.

I caught a good muddie there.

There is a good rock ledge just downstream of Breaky Creek on the Albion side. Have caught some good bream from there at night on prawns.
    Give it a go
    Cheers & good luck

ive heard of big grunter under the goodwill bridge (i think thats what its called) and ive certainly caught plently of sharks, threadfin, bream, and most recently a fair few flatties up around sherwood strech. the flathead have been from 45- 60 cm and have cause 6 in the last year. got a 52-53 cm fish two days ago on live mullet, so there is certainly fish there if ur keen to have a crack
