    navman not reading cmap...why?

hey all i have a navman tracker 5430i.

i have two cmap NT+ cards for it and my gps isnt reading either!!

i find it hard to believe that both cards are ruined/broken but also cant figure out why isnt not reading either cards.it doesnt apear to have any rust one the terminals and up till today it has been reading the cards ok!!!

i can only put it down to me doing something on one of the menu options?

    any help is appreciated.

Their might be a secret full reset, something like press a button 8 times, jump up and down spin around press 2 buttons at the same time then dance a jig and poof your in! not that there is anything wrong with that!!

Does the manual have any clues toward a reset outside of a default in the menu somewhere.

    good luck

    cheers fnq

Check your cards in another unit if possible as this will eleiminate
whether it's a card or the unit.

Also have a look in your main Set Up under System and check that you have not
ticked "Y" Cable this should be unticked unless it is running to a fuel sensor.

    Hi Cobia,

I thought I had the same problem with my Lowrance not reading the card. I had to go into MAP DATA under the main menu and select the map that I wished use. I have an Australia wide map and chose brisbane to Sydney. Lowrance are set on a default that is very basic and you have to select one of the maps before you get information such as contours navigation marks etc.

    Just A Thought good luck

    Re: navman not reading cmap...why?

i have red the entire manual back to front and it has nothign on how to test a problem with either the card or the units card reading capability.

i will take the cards to the place i bought the unit from and test to see if the cards are rooted...if not then it must be the unit....

i spoke to a rep from navman today and he said to do a total reset again...set the time up properly and then call him with the outcome...

after its set up i have to go into the "display" option, then click "about" then go into the "user card" option...he said if its not recognising the card in there then its the unit for sure..

which spells good news for me as its still under warrenty i think?!?!?well im pretty sure it is...i's rather replace unit then the cards as they are more expensive than the cards...

    ill post up the outcome

Check the firmware version as well.

I was looking a getting a whole of Australia card was told that early models of the 5430i may not be compatible with the whole of Australia card.
You can see the firmware version when you first fire it up. I have version 1.7.13 which works fine. If you have an older version you may need a firmware upgrade from Navman (Navico).

    Good luck.

Sounds like a similar problem to one I have had previsouly with a Navman - the card holder warps with heat or cold so that the contacts of the unit do not meet with the card. Try taking the card out of the holder and holding it in place with a finger - will soon tell you if this is the problem or not. I ended up stuffing some thin cardboard between the card holder and card to force contacts to re-establish.

    Good luck

Good point but if it was the firmware it wouldn't have worked in the past!

I'm assuming you haven't overzoomed the unit? My (different brand) unit loses the map once it zooms in too far.
