Help with GME CX294 marine radio

I've just re-installed my (non VHF) GME marine radio and can't get the bu$$er working.
Turn on main switch, turn on switch on radio, she powers up for a second then switches off, and stays off until I turn off the main switch. Then if I turn on the main switch, turn the 'on' switch on the radio to 'on', it repeats the process.
Naturally stupid has lost the instruction book..............
The ariel is connected, the fuse (2amp) is not blowing, the connections are fine, battery is old but charged, the boat is in the shed.
    Any help appreciated!
    Cheers.

    Nigel,
If the radio was working OK before removal, & you have not done bad things to it, then it should work upon replacement. So I am thinking battery. Do you have a voltmeter to check voltage? It may be charged but if you have a sick cell then that charge will drop off as soon as the charger is removed.
Do you have another known good battery to hook it up to? If it fails to work on another battery & you are satisfied that all your connections are clean & tight, then it may be time for a new radio.
The cost of checking this radio out through a repair shop may be nearly the price of a new unit.
    ROLL TIDE, ROLL.................

    Regards,
    Peter

    Thanks Peter.
Took the boat out of the shed to do some work on it, tried the radio and it worked. So I'm assuming it is/was either a poor connection, battery in poor condition, or a combination of both!
Time for a new battery, I'm thinking.
Sincere thanks for your advice, much appreciated.
    Cheers.
