Had a great morning on Wed, headed out from Donnybrook flicking along the weedy banks towards Toorbul nice falling tide.
Managed a flattie @ 52cm and was stoked, quickly followed by another 50cm model.
One of those big turtles scared the bejesus out of me repeatedly by popping up and taking a big gasp right behind me. Think he got a laugh out of it. Plenty of baitfish jumping and a dugong too.
Heard lots of surface "slurping" going on over the flats on the falling tide. Having read from you guys about surface luring bream, thought I'd give it a shot. Flicked a small popper out, some quick winds, lots of pauses and...voila! My first ever bream on popper, a nice 26cm fella, then another @ 23cm. Woohoo! Both released on the promise we meet again.
Another flattie to round out the morning. A 54cm fatboy, almost a PB. Damage done on 5cm Atomic Fat Grubs, variety of colours.
A big thanks to all who post here for giving me the info to go out and try new things. Its easy to have a crack then give up when it don't work, but if you stick with it and land a few, it gives you the confidence to keep going and not look back.
Cheers,
K.
Some days you get to be the dog, other days you're just the hydrant......
Interesting you mentioned the flattie was fat. I fished Buckley's Hole last weekend for 3 x 45cm flatties.....all were as fat as Ive ever seen them in this size.....must be well fed around that area
On ya coddy. Headin up there with some mates for the weekend hunting a few crabs and headaches. Might slip up a creek or two to chase a fish. How dirty was the water?
The snot weed is still around, not nearly as bad as I've seen it. The crab pots actually came up the same colour as I put them down, so it can't be too bad!!
The water quality was still actually really clear, found quite a few flatties being spooked by the boat in the shallows .... big puff of sand as I drifted past.
