I am after some info on rods, reels and line to use at awoonga to try for barra it seems there is a lot of info on lures but not much on other gear if anybody could help it would be greatley appreciated.
Thinking of going to awoonga late October and wondering whether best to use baitcasters or spinning type rods and as it sounds like braid is the go what breaking strain would be applicable.
Mate, Rods what do you own ? Reels same question... Line 30LB to 50 lb... Braid is best ...Barra can be caught on either reel... No need to got out and spend your hard earned bucks if you dont need to...Tell us what you have and we will go from there....
I have a silstar pt501cam a medium action baitcaster coupled with diawa 103hi baitcasting reel and a silstar pt701swm also medium action coupled with shakespeare sigma supra rt 060.
You might want to consider spin gear.
You'll find that's the direction in which HIGHLY experienced anglers are going. You can make longer casts with lures that make less splash. And today's gear handles fish just as well.
Removing the boat from the equation is a critical but little realised consideration.
I get a lot of newcomers, as I'm sure Johnny Mitchell - a great guide and barra brain - does. I think we're on the same page with this one.
Anyway, look me up and whatever you're saddled with, I'll put yards on your casts. That one will be on me.
