interesting fathers day mako on off the goldy

finaly got to get out for a fish after to many work comitments and the old boy going in for a op his peepers, we were keen for just a fun day on the water and we certinaly had that.
hit the goldy about 8 no need for an early start both being fathers and all and decided to troll out through the sea way, was doing so but got our lures cut of by the vol resque mmmm not happy but hey theses guys do a great job and after seeing the news about the wale watches he may have been trying to warn us. anyway on we went and decided to try the 24 f line and see if we could find any new spots.
cutting a long story short, after seeing heaps of whales we found a good looking bit of bottom, it didnt show big signs of fish but we were ready for a fish after a troll and the trip.
first drift got 4 squire/snp but only in the 40-50 range but just what we were after, good eating.
we ended up with 8 keepers of the red veriaty all around the 40-50cm , 1 tuskie 65 and a pearly at 50.
high light was after casting out my floater and getting a knot around an eye, i pulled the knot back through the guides and cut at the reel and leader to tie back quickly. i had tied half the knot joing my leader to my main line with 3-4 mtrs of line, pillie, 2 hooks and running sinker in the water when as im tying my knot i see a light colour down deep, im telling my old boy theres a fish at the boat when my line starts to move, no big hit, dont think it knew it was hooked? im half way through my knot and just get 2 wraps of my line around and back through when the lines pulled from my hands and lips, 2 inches of tag off each end of the knot go racing through the guides. "yep im on" reels loosing line, i was fishing 20lb mono to 40lb leeder so not a massive amount of drag but the rod was bent. guessing the 2 hook rig may have been in the corner of its mouth??? fish went deep for a bit and then the line cut through the water and what looked like a mako shark about 30 mt or so with its belly to us jumped a body length and a half out of the water, landed and busted me off. got some footage but can only see the splash, looked around a metre and a half but solid you could feel every tail beat.
wow, great fun heaps of whales and home in time to watch the tigers give it to the gold coast. great fathers day!

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges
