How do I dispose of an old epirb? I don't want to just throw it in the garbage in case it accidentally gets activated - what's the best way to get rid of it?

I know couple months ago the Rescue Helicopter did just the same thing cirlced round and round the local dump then was in the paper about a thrown ot epirb.
I'd say your local Coastguard be the way to go like out of date flares as the water police to use them for training

Up here we Use Hussar as baits for real RED FISHS (SHSIIFDER)
pull the cover off the end and unplug/remove the battery. chuck deactivated epirb in rubbish and then drop the batteries in at a battery shop for disposal
Battery World are the official disposal locations. They are equipped to disarm them and take care of appropriate disposal. This link gives details;
