It was a good read for me. I would not question another mans judgement on size or weight of a fish. Maybe 18 kg of drag is when the rod tip is touching the water when the rod is vertical. Who knows. You probably had to be there to believe it, but I can believe him from his story.

Yea looks like a Whaler to me and a nice size specimen to boot. I don't think I would like to be holding an outfit running 18kg of drag for too long. My back and arms start screaming when I'm pulling 7 or 8 kg for more than a few minutes
Nice new PB Snapp as well

thanks for the comments everyone, and thank you for correcting me. I was using my mates combo as i don't have anything heavy for off-shore haha, but it was an Accurate spinning reel thats all i know and i will find out what it was this afternoon. It was around 18kg at the end of the fight, he can tell because he has measured the line before as in how many clicks with the adjustment of drag = so much pressure so i went off by what they said. Let me tell you i was buggered after about 5 mins of the fight with that much drag, my back was sore my arms were sore so the older guys had a go so i could have a rest. Those photo's were taken of the shark around 5m below the surface of the water, when the shark came up to the surface it was around half the length of the 6.25m cruisecraft, its just a prediction but it would of gone close. Thank you for the comments i really appreciate it. Btw to my disgust it did come on a nuclear chicken, rob only has nuclear chicken's, once he found out they worked he went and cought 100's of the packs and i am not joking.

    cheers,
    nic

Accurate Twinspin very potent reel capable of 18kg and as stated has calibrated drag where (from memory but could be wrong) each click is .5kg.

Keechie Good shark mate and a nice effort to get him to the boat.

I would however pay money to see you holding up to 18kg of drag.....

    Good effort mate

for those that know me, they know i am not very big, i am about 5'6" and 55kg, and on 15kg of drag the shark decided to dive straight down 30m. So about that stage i though i was going in, cause i would rather not loose the combo a accurate spinning reel $1500 plus a custom gary howard loomis $800, that is out of the budget for me haha. Only if it was on film it could of one funniest home video's

Nice effort Keechie,!! That thing would have just about pulled you inside out.
As previously stated I think that shark was something other than a grey nurse.
They are very distinctive as they have two dorsal fins.

Re: Big Shark!!! 15kg Of Drag!!! And A Tt Jighead!!!

That shark is definately an Oceanic Whaler. The high front dorsal fin and the thick shoulders are a dead giveaway + Grey Nurse Sharks are a very dosile species and certainly not capable of pulling that amount of pressure.

    Cheers,

    James
