    Longtails and Fitness Levels

On board today was Cobiaman, Macca, young Mitch & myself. The plan, fish western rocks & try to land some cobes.
Well we left Manly ramp around 5am & with wind against tide & not knowing if the forecast was going to be correct we gave Mud some drifting time with plastics. With only some undersized squire willing to play the game & conditions looking better we belined it to the four beacons, loaded up with some livies & headed north.
With plenty of tuna bustin up between Mud & Moreton the original plan was canned & one of our spots in the northen bay that has produced some horse tuna over the years was our new target for today.
Started the burley trail deployed the livies, fired up the bbq and about 45mins later, two of the thunnus baitrunners started losing line at a rapid pace. Anyway one spat the hook, the other stayed connected, dumped the anchor & for the next 40 mins Cobiaman gave it his best shot, but due to his extra winter kilos & lack of match fitness the rod was passed to Macca who with his troublesom shoulder only lasted 10 mins. So it was up to me to finish what ended up being a 1 hr 15 min fight. Gees those longtails are a tough fish.

That is one hell of an LT. Did you measure or weight it?

Ah, see this is why I go to the gym every day, so my muscles can be strong enough to handle XOS fish! Haven't caught a tuna that big yet through, well done to you boys -- great work!

Top fish there fellas. They certainly know how to pull hard at that size don't they. Its good to hear that there is some pelagic activity happening. We might be in for a good season with a nit of luck
I reckon that with LT's sometimes they seem to come in easier on light lines as they come to the surface earlier and run faster. On the heavier drag settings they seem to slug it out much harder and deeper

P.S. We have some good deals on offer at the moment at the Cleveland Aquatic Centre Gym

I don't mind Good Life, myself. They have good equipment there, and the Les Mills pump classes are great for the shoulders, arms and back. No lap pool though!

if it was closer to home i might join up...
we had that fish within 6 inches of the gaff after 15 minutes but after a while it got back into the deeper water and then slugged it out for another hour

MM- a fine, decent fish there mate, you (3) must be pleased with yourselves. Where you on yakkas or h'heads? Great team effort! ;-)
(Damn, I thought I'd seen the last of the Body Attack classes, sigh back to the locker room for me....)

Yeh there were a few pelagics out today aswell. I spent about 3 hours chasing mack tuna around mud and the river. Some really big mack tuna too i'd estimate some of the fish to push 8kilos, unfortuneatley i couldn't buy a strike despite best efforts. That really is a big longy, i'm looking forward to the next few months for pelagics, it should be a good summer.
