    Furuno FCV-620

    Hey all,
Ive been looking all around townsville for the furuno FCV-620 and the only place that sells them here locally is Bias boating warehouse and they are $1299. I was wondering if that is a decent price or if there was another place i could purchase one, possibly the internet?but still want the warranty.

I have been told by a few people that have these sounders and furunos that they are great sounders and that i will get my moneys worth, i just have never had to purchase a sounder before. What should i look for?
Do they come with transducers or are they seperate?
    Any help welcome.

    cheers,
    Chris

try these guys , http://www.trymax.com.au/ they are in brisbane but it works out to be 1125 plus frieght to you . you can buy from the usa and it should workout around just under 1000 but with the usa warranty . furuno have lowered the price locally a fair bit and at that sort of difference i dont think it is worth buying overseas .

in saying that screw bias for a better deal up there . and im not sure but you should be able to get the cash back even if brought from bias but it does end aug 31 so hurry

Seabourne electronics on Boundary street sell and repair them. I got mine from there for a tad over a grand including transom mount transducer. I also had them install the transducer for me for $45 bucks.

Chris, what sort of fishing do you do? If you regularly fish off shore I would recommend the Furuno, but if you fish more of the surrounding creeks and or in the bay area you probably wouldn't need to spend that much.

There must be something wrong with your 620 if its not picking up a lure in the water. The first picture below is of a 4" plastic drop under the transducer and hitting a 60cm snapper on the head. The second picture is of a plastic worked through the tansducer beam. The other pics and just a few fish shows.

You need to tune the 620 for best results and once you have it right, you will never look back.

Your on the ball Garry. I generally leave the unit in auto in less than about 50 feet. Once over that depth I switch to manual and adjust to suit the conditions using pretty much the same settings s you are that you kindly shared with us in another post.

    Re: Furuno FCV-620

i got my fcv-620 yesterday. fitted it to my tinny tonite and all goes well so far. Hoping to take it out on the water tomorrow morning to give her a test run. I ended up getting the sounder for $1269 up here in townsville.

Has anyone got a list of what colours each fish is on the sounder?like the colours for a barramundi and such.

    Cheers,
    Chris

    Re: Furuno FCV-620

Gilli there will not be a direct correlation between the colours and the type of fish. The colour indicates the strength of the return echo, and what colour is displayed is dependent on your gain setting. Ie, turn up the gain and the colours will get stronger. You manual will have a page in it telling you what relative strength each colour represents.

In general though you are looking for red signals for fish of substance. Tightly schooled bait will also appear red though. A more diffuse school of small fish like whiting may appear in green/blue

To ID fish you will have to get experience in how a few variables stack together, namely:

    (1) depth
    (2) boat speed
    (4) gain setting
    (3) colour
    (4) shape

Yellow and red just off the bottom is what I like to see. Depends on what you are chasing though, experience is the key.

"But honey, I NEED to go fishing to learn how to use this sounder. You don't want that $1300 to have been wasted do you darling"
