    Crystal creek part2

Got there at 5am this morning. Mullet everywhere. Crabs must be in their 100's as well because all bait was stolen by either crabs or very undersized Bream. Caught 1 small bream. Using 4/0 hooks so that was why I only caught 1.

Beautiful at 5 am but the fishing was poor. I had 3 rods out with big prawn baits as welll as mullet strips. Lots of femal crabs about

    next time

Still after that legak Jack and I am sure it will come from somewhere like Crystal or Toomulla

Bad luck Kev. I've noticed that you've fished Crystal a fair bit recently. Do you find particular tides better than others?

What a shame aye kev did you get any big bites while you where fishing or was it just the one bite and fish?

    Re: Crystal creek part2

    Many small bites 1 hook-up.

I personally like fishing an incoming tide with a high of around 3m and high at about 7:30 or 8am. With crystal I don't mind a high at 10am either but no more than 3m

    kk,

mate if you want your jack fix try this,
get yourself some live prawns & go down to the rock pool, next have a good length of 50lb leader & with only the leader coming off your reel drop the live prawn down beside the rocks (right at your feet) & mate HOLD ON!
a couple of feet in the water should do & keep moving around the rocks.
want to see a pic of the jacks you are going to catch.

kev, I know a landbased spot close to town, where you would catch a legal jack for sure, in the warmer months. Not as certain in the cooler months. My best jack from that spots is 51cm. The only problem are the mozzies. PM me if your keen

Yes fisher...............mossie and sand flies are deadly up there. Fishing in the warmer months are good for catching barra etc etc but the sandflies are thick as..........

Very uncomfortable dressing up with no skin showing in summer. End up drinking 5 liters of water in 2 hours easily.

    Re: Crystal creek part2

thought maybe by some miracle they may have thinned out.... have been up to check the creek out for around 6months now...

I'm suprised your not landing any trevally. Every time i head up there i either bag a few GT's on lures or a nice jack or two. it might be worth 'exploring' other sections of the creek.

    Re: Crystal creek part2

I might have to try walking around a bit and flick some lures. I am a bait fisherman and very rarely throw a lure around.

I can be a bit lazy and that probably does not help.

    I will keep trying

    Re: Crystal creek part2

Kev, keep an eye out for rock bars, throw out a poddy mullet in a rod holder with a locked drag, and buy a couple of bombers (different colours, have caught fish on most colours, just not gold...) and flick them around while your waiting for your rod to go off... theGT's are always moving up and down the river, particularly on the flood tide, and from my memory, the further up the river you head, the less midgies are around.

The shallow diving floating bomber is good in that it is very easy to safely work over top of rock bars and snags and 9 times out of 10 you get to watch the fish strike.
