    acrylic winding check

    Gday viewers

Just trying to think outside the box of winding checks. Was thinking and thinking when i thought about acrylic pen blanks as my father makes pens from time to time. So i thought that i might try and turn some down for a different type of winding check.

Of course these will be much larger than your run of the mill check to show off a bit of the colors.

Can anybody see any probs that may arise?

I'm thinking it just may be a goer.

    Should be no problems.
Somewhere around here I'm sure I have an article in a rodbuliders guild magazine about doing exactly that.

    Re: acrylic winding check

Great stuff. The Yanks have been doing acrylic turning as trims for fishing rods for some time now. The only problem you may find is that the acrylic can be very brittle. I would hate to fit a couple of flash winding checks and spend a heap of time building a rod only to have one crack or split when I accidentally knocked it against something, eg a rod holder. Just my thoughts as I've never done one. I have see photos of split ones on the RB site. A lot would depend on how you treat your rods!
