    Braid conditioner????

    Hey guys,

has anyone heard of or used braid conditioner? Apparently it keeps the braid softer and smoother. Sounds silly but with some braids costing over $200 is it worth using? I just got some to try and would like to hear some opinions. I have heard the Japanese never fish without it

It is probably no different to running your line through a bucket of Cuddly fabric softener for a cleanup after fishing. It makes a massive difference to cast nets as well, both mono and cotton.

I might give one of my snap outfits a go with softener after i head out this sunday morning to see what difference it makes.

    Hi Tetsuo,

I've seen a few people talk of using conditioner on braid although haven't really seen enough feedback to consider trying it - Although the mono conditioner seems to get used a lot and apparently is very effective (I hardly fish mono nowadays so haven't tried it)

Did you have a look on tackletour? There might be some info in there archive.

    Cheers
    Tony

edit: Saw Jacks post - I agree, I used to use cuddly on my cast nets and it makes a huge difference to the suppleness of the mono. (smells nicer too)

    Re: Braid conditioner????

Does anyone know how it works ....... I mean how would it soften polyethylene!
Doesn't braid only become softer after use ... breaking down of the bonding or loosening up the fibre weave ....... Maybe because you are applying a surfactant!

I can understand cotton cast nets!

Not sure NAGG. I guess its not for softening new braid so much as keeping used braid in good condition. I heard a form of silicone was used but the bottle is all in Japanese.

If it is Silicone ..... then its working as a surfactant ! ....... ( coating the braid in slippery stuff) .......... Its interesting , when you find out more - Let us know

I remember my Uncle Jimmy telling me years ago he would drop his new reel of mono in a bucket of fabric softner for 1/2 hr and then he would wind it on his reel.....seems to take the spiralling out of the line as well as winding on and sitting nicely in the reel.......sounds like it's worth a try in particulaly older Braid......Whitto
