merc are exactly the same as the tohatsu. Made by tohatsu for Mercury. Check them out on the respective websites. Same motor. Tohie at a fraction of the price.

Stuie's advice is also VERY sound. Nothing worse than having a good / great motor without great dealer back up. Believe me I know
all things being equal, I reckon the twist gear change on the Mercury to be great, far better than the gear lever seperate setup (well I reckon) when I got my first Merc with that feature (second hand) I was a bit concerned that it may be a dud, but after a bit of time I loved it, made the decision so much easier when I upgraded to a new Motor, the only choice was another Merc, because it was the only one with that system, the Motor itself is no better or worse than any other brand, but the gear change did it for me, so maybe have a look at one and see if you like it enough to swing your choice.
I must add that my favoured Dealer was also a Merc/Yamaha Dealer, so that also paid a part in the choice,as I knew they would look after me later on (and they have) been dealing with them for many years now, and hardly ever do any shopping around, I know their price will be close to anyone else, the Service is top class, and they know who you are when you walk in becuase the same Salesman has been there more than 1 week before he had to move to stay ahead of irate customers.
Tohatsu is my choice i don't even have 10 hrs yet. Great guys at Baurers Marine Toowoomba 46323600 cheers Kevin
