Rocks from Bundy to Rocky

Hey guys,

I'm planning to do a trip up north (i'm from NSW) chasing mackeral, Trevors and maybe some tuna using heavy spin gear off the rocks. I'm not going till early summer but i'm starting to look at maps and try to figure out where i should stop. Can anyone suggest some good ledges from bundy to rocky and maybe even a little further north?

The headland at 1770 and Double Head at Rosalyn Harbour are the two standout locations for macks off the rocks that are easily accessible. Bettered by Bustard Head if you can get a deal with the DUKW that runs the beach north from 1770.

If you can get a lift by boat, the rocks at Cape Capricorn on Curtis Island are a stand out, also any of the rocks on the eastern side of Great Keppel Island, in particular Big Peninsular, and Stockyard Point, Corio Headland, and Five Rocks north of Yeppoon.

The DUKW from 1770 is an amphibious ex army vehicle that takes tours to Bustard head. I think they call thier vehicle a LARC or something. I think its $60ish a head for the tour for the day but don't quote me on that tho.

The tour is an interesting aside to a fishing trip too. Aparently its all part of Eurimbula National Park now so you can get permits to camp in the area.

Corio is accessible from five rocks area down nine mile beach. Last time i was there it was a difficult job getting off the beach heading home towing the boat behind, it was a helluva deeply rutted twisted run up a fairly big dune off the beach the rest of the run was fine tho.

The track is not like that anymore as it has been done up and boards have been placed down in the steepest areas. The run off the beach is pretty simple now. The hardest part will be going in just after the small creek crossing and having to run up a fairly long steep dune which can get difficult in the dry when there has been no rain for a while and the sand is very soft. This part hasn't had any boards put down.

When the mackeral are running the rocks around Rosslyn Bay in Yeppoon ad definitely worth a shot. You won't be alone though!

I was looking at Bustard Head on google earth and it looks like there is a set of tracks to get in there and a few buildings at the headland. Can anyone comment? has anyone been in that way? It would be great if i could get in there to camp for a few days...

Have been in to Pancake Creek in the last 3 months fishing, around the other side of Bustard Head. Forget about driving in it is boat access only. You need to drive in from Turkey Beach and launch at the causeway to middle island. Track into causway is stuffed and 1 bridge is washed out.Great fishing spot though.
