I am a retired Texan visiting in Launceston and would like to know about where and what bait is the best here in your beautiful Tassi. Specially on your Tamar River. I don"t fly fish , any help would be greatly appriciated.
Welcome to ausfish mate, im from launceston but i sadly cant help you as i only lived there when i was a baby, but im sure if you ask around the local tackle shops and im sure they will give you all the help you need, or you can try asking in saltwater chat im sure blaze or someone from tassie will have a answer for u as he lives in tassie.
Hope i helped u a bit.
Hi Tex
There is small peirs/jettys at a few locations heading from launceston to the heads of the river. The species than can be encounted are snapper, silver trevally, snotty trevala, couta, aussie salmon, flathead, yellow tail kingfish, cod etc. The prefered bait for all species is a natural bait. You can buy small packets of pilchards, squid, whitebait at most coastal service stations and tackle shops, yhese baits would be a good starting point for wetting a line. Then ask the question of any fisho you see wetting a line as we are a friendly bunch in tassie.
If you head up to Circular Head (far nor west), drop me a pm I will see if I can catch up to show you our local spots
Enjoy your time in tassie
cheers
