    undergunned?

would i be under gunned jigging a 5" plastic around the mouth of the brisbane river with 8lb braid, 13 lb mono leader on a 2-4kg rod.
iv never caught anything bigger than a 37cm bream on plastics and just wondering how light i could get away with catching a decent snap...

    cheers, jared

    Re: undergunned?

You should be fine Jared, as long as you have a smooth drag and take ya time... Have a look at my avatar, 88 cm 6.75kg snapper from Mud Island, i got it on a 2-4kg E.Grell rod, Daiwa Sol 2000 with 6 pound fireline and 12 pound flurocarbon leader.

yeah mate that should do the job i've fished it that light out there although do expect to get bricked on the rocks by the bigger ones occasionally. 2-4 kg rod is spot on for fun out there.

    Re: undergunned?

Have a look at last months copy of fishing world, the guy with the metre plus threadie was well aware of what he was getting into and is still getting them .In otherwords be aware of what the bycatch potential is in the area you are fishing ,if your prepared to loose some gear in the experimental phase then fish light and enjoy the ride. Top gear catches top fish.
