Apparently there is a little area in the shoulder of the fish that you can eat raw. Thats about it . You keep slicing bits off until you have a clean, clear looking bit. Then slice it thinly and dip in wasabi or something. WHY!

    Look for a snapper instead

You could always put a hook in its mouth, send it back down and turn it into a 38 kilo Cobe. I would turn it into strip baits on gang hooks and drift it down to the bottom.

I once swapped a couple of mac tuna for a huge flathead, with a korean bloke. He was said he was going to poach them. I thought it was a great swap.

Like Angla said, you can eat them as sashimi. If youre into sashimi they are not to bad but there are much nicer sashimi fish around.

I regularly cook the pink shoulder pieces over the coals on the bbq and find it really good. Only way to find out for your selves is to give it a go.

There's a recipe somewhere for making tuna jerky out of Mac tuna. I've tried it and it's really good. Do a search on the net.

Apart from that agree with everyone else - it tastes like crap cooked normally. Even the sashimi isn't very good. Good bait and berley.

Has anyone tried them in a smoker? Some barely edible fish often turn out pretty impressive in the smoker, eg Australian Salmon.

Most tunas go well in the smokers as they are fairly oily fish, just wondered if anyone has given them a try in the smoker. Next one I catch will be given a shot.

    Cheers

If your not into sushimi, dark fish usually makes good fish cakes. Steam the fish, mix with mashed potato and a bit of onion, dip in breadcrumbs and fry.
