I think that the vibration created by the action of the plastic is more important than colour at night but in saying that i do tend to go with darker colours because of the whole silhouette thing.
There must also be some reason behind the fact that the glowing plastics in most brands are bright colours but i dont know??? i guess its hard to make black glow![]()
I use pumpkinseed or watermelon green colours at night with good success. I'm not sure fish actively hunt via sight dependency at night but more through vibration and scents and occasionally sounds.
I find my strikes are more frequent at night and generally hook up a lot better as the fish make sure of the hit just in case they miss.
I have tried glow baits before at night extensively but am now converted to the darker hues that i generally use in the daytime.
I think fish also have an ESP sort of thing they tune in with at night while looking for a feed.

I voted Dark ......... Though I don't really think that its a big factor! I'm with the others - Vibration is king followed by scent!

depends on the moon i have found dark on the new and light on the brighter nights. just my 2 cents but the thing is everynight can be different thats why you should carry a good assortment of colours with you. if one isnt working try the other experimenting is the only way to learn

I usually go for bright/glow plastics on a dark night (new moon or no moon), and dark plastics on a bright night.
However, I agree that the vibration and scent seems more important. I haven't caught a lot of fish on plastics at night but those I have hit very very hard.

cheers matt_hill range isnt a prob i got a back pack full of plastics lol, so it seems vibration and scent are the major factors, what are some good placcys that have these qualities, we talking shad tails, gulp scent???

Gulp 5" jerkshads and 4" swimming mullet. It may be just me but I find shad/paddle tails don't attract many snapper. I have most luck with straight profiles and grub tails - both night and day.

they say dark over here in the UK, anyone got a picture of what you guys call a plastic?
Plastics are plastics, where ever you are, i'd imagine you'd have your own variations of pretty much the same thing.
Heres a link to one of the local tackle shops showing some of the range of plastics available locally.

sorry about thr triple post.
i think any plastic moved around in the water whether it is a straight tail or paddle etc make vibration. species that feed at night are designed to pick up the slightest movement in the water. have had really good sucess using the 6inch atomic jerkshads and the 7 inch bass assasins also. no scent or big moving tail. saying that scent will probably help the fish to either find it quicker or hold onto it longer.
