It all depends on what your fishing for and where you are fishing. For example i fish a spot down the coast for bream and as long as the tide is running out you might as well have the rods out of the water, as soon as the tide turns and starts to come in the fish come on and especially 2 hours before top of tide. Also find trevally in same spot only bite on the top of the tide.
Best to fish a spot in both tides and see wich is most productive, might be a bit boring waiting but at least you get to know when certain spots fish best that way your not wasting time in the future.
Run in for everything except flathead. Big tidal flow, fish the still water times of top and bottom of the tides. Sometimes, in places where the current is generally slow, you may need to fish the mid tides just to get some movement. Depends on the size of the tidal flows and the geography. Think like a fish, they don't like to work too hard for a feed, or prefer the food to be brought to them.
Don't know the spot you mention Gavin, you will prob get a more specific reply from someone who fishes there.
Cheers and good luck.
thanks helps a bit i will just have to go all day mainly going for flat head and a few winter whiting if iam lucky
I would agree with this and don't despair at still water if the fish go off the bite as soon as the water moves again they're on again. This is where the saying 'No run, no fun' comes from. General rule for me anyway, 2 hours either side of high. Fish anytime day, night, lowtide, hightide, midtide ... sometimes I've found a particular spot fishes better at a particular tide/time. Put in the hours and you'll be an expert at that particular spot . Cheers
