Quiet river but a couple in the esky.

Fished the river this morning but we didn't have it our way. A couple of those bloody big steel things tied up where i wanted to fish .Anyway we soldiered on and put in endless casts. Then out of the blue I'm monstered and looseing line at a great deal of knots .Garrett points the electric into good water and I get a chance to turn this fish after 2 good runs and you start to get that feeling of I've got you now ,just don't do anything stupid and nice and easy and this thing decides he hasn't finished and takes another cracker run and by this time he's back in the pylons.Stay cool as I could feel him and felt I still had a chance as line started to come back onto the reel but ping and he's gone. At least it wasn't knot failure, just old fashion leader worn threw on those pylons. After all that time I could have cried.Endless casts to come up tight and gggggone. We kept casting and I came up on a reasonable fish for the esky quickly followed by Garrett with a slightly better class of fish . 2 other small squire around 32 cms but that was us for the day. Best one went 55 cm. One thing that I can tell you for sure is it was dam cold. At least my mum will be happy with a few nice fillets Cheers

Heh. Thats the story of most of my fishing. Put in a good fight but in the end I get stitched up on the rocks ... Still its a rush.

Well done Chief at least you got a couple, and it is still good to hook the bigger fish even if they bust you off... Any bream around???

Hi Marty, sorry mate haven't had a shot at bream since River to Mud. At one stage today I had a security guard yelling from a wharf that i had to be 30 meters away.We thought it was a huge joke as we were easily 80 meters away and that wasn't far enough????.What chance would you have there trying to get a few HBs around those pylons. WE are so lucky to live in the river city, just a dam shame you can't use it.

Yeh Brad it was a snapper, would have been a good fish. It certainly had some heat to it.

    Nice going Chief and Garret.
Pity about the bigger model Chief but hey theres always next time to get your revenge.
My mate Steve fought a cobia yesterday offshore for 30 minutes before the hook pulled.

Nice work Chief, good to see some pinkies come out from the river - keeps me believing they do actually live in there (:

    Well done mate.
I went to a bream info session at Fishhead a month ago and the speakers were Chris Britton and Anthony Wishey. What they do when a bream hits the pylons is throw the bail arm over and let the fish have all the line it wants. They rekon 9 out of 10 times the bream will come back out. Might be worth trying on the squire.

Callop... cheers mate ,I've actually seen Garrett use that on bream successfully but sometimes it takes awhile for my my more mature brain cells to react.Usually about 5 minutes after the bust off

Brent.. done that a few times on decent fish. The worst part is if you don;t get to see the fish and your left wondering.

I think the same security guard had a go at me from the wharf last Tue. I might take a little computer game or at least somthing like that with me next time, pretend to point it at the wharf then tell him it reads 32.75 mts and to bugger off.
Were the tuna still hanging around???

Hey chief the big reds are in and taking us for a ride good and propper. That sounded like a good fish and it is bloody cold in the mornings. It took until about 10 am for my feet to warm up. Well done boys.
