Spot on rusco. Although, I have caught these, bleed them immediately and put them in an ice slurry. Cooked them fresh and they are not so bad ! They do have a fair amount of bloodline in them. I remove that before cooking.

Best to make up a nice salad thingie and cook Mowie, break into pieces and toss in salad. Or, make them into fish cakes with extra spices and flavouring to ' help ' things along.

The flavour itself might not be the best around, but the nutritional value is still there.

    Each to their own.....

best way i found to cook these is to get a big Stew pot. fill it will water, add the fish, and a special ingredient called a rock.. when the fish has disolved, take the rock out and eat the rock.

seriously though... i have eaten them. not much flavour, very tough flesh, mark them on your sheet as an ok fighting fish then release for someone else to catch.

It's a very tiny picture of a fish..... Nah seriously as already stated it is one of those mother in law fish (Morwong). I caught one off Cape Moreton early this year and did the same thing as Lucky Phill. Bled it, straight onto the ice slurry and then gave it to the mother in law who said it apparently tasted great.

And theres still plenty around who don't have a clue what they are. Asked a couple of blokes at the ramp how they went 'bagged out on snapper' was the reply, 'have a look' he says proudly and points me to his big ass esky in front of his $60K cruise craft.

ROFL I have a mate who says they taste like snapper, so he takes all mine. Apparently the trick is to bleed them, keep them on ice slurry and cook them the next night but never ever freeze them.
