    noosa with nuggs

Lately i have been having a lot of trouble trying to catch something decent , so i decided to try something different and organised a trip up to noosa for the day with brandon h and nuggstar .
i hit the road at about 3.20am and picked up my deckies on the way to noosa , we got to the ramp in the noosa river around 4.45am and headed up towards the sheridan to chase a few trevs , we tried poppers , hard bodies and soft plastics as we drifted around with the leccy not much was happening untill nuggs hooked up to a pair of mangrove jacks , not 2 fish , my sunnies , caught them on the way threw on a cast (i had them on my head ) , sorry nuggs i had to tell em lol .

not long after the sunnies went in brandon had a flick under a moored cat and got a little bump so i skimed my 2 inch prong underneth gave it a couple off twitches and whack im on , i was getting pulled all over the place and i thought i had hooked up to a trev (what i was chasing) after a few more dives for the bottom a nice little 41cm jack made its way into the net .
i have been trying for years to get a legal jack and have only ever caught one that was legal (55cm) and that was 10 years ago on bait , so i was stoked when i got my first legal jack on plastic and in the middle of winter . I reackon we might have woke up a few locals with the yahoos .

It went a bit quiet after that so we fished some rocks and canals and nugg showed us a few spots that he knows of and we ran into hoedaddy while he was onto a nice little GT .
we had a look at a few more spots than decided to see what it was like out the front , after a bit of pushing of sand bars we found the chanal and headed for the bar (not the pub) and it was flat , which was good because i have never crossed a bar before so it was easy we just followed a boat out and all was good .

When we got out the front of the rocks we gave pistol pete a ring and he kindly gave us a mark to check out , but we didnt end up going there because i wasnt sure if we had enough fuel to get there and back so we drifted along the front off the rocks for a while with no luck so we headed back in to chase some whitting with poppers on the way some bloke got a nice star gazer . We had a few chases behind the poppers but the whitting didnt want to play so we went back to some off the earlier spots we had fished in the morning , brandon mannaged 2 bream from the canals than we ran into a young fella taking a picky of a tarpon where we were chasing the trevs earlyer so out went the gladiators , brandon casts out lets it sink , while it sinking bang his on , this thing was giving him some curry and again we thought trev but wrong call it was a 52cm tarpon sweet PB for brandon , we went straight back to where the tarpon come from with the leccy and i cast out let it sink for a while twitch twitch let it sink bang , im on thinking yeah tarpon or GT , got a flash of colour and had to have another look to make sure , it was my second jack for the day it was 40cm .

we tried a few more spots to give nugg a chance of getting something but we ran out of time and sun light so we headed of for our drive back to brighton .

all in all it was a great day out on the water and the fish were a bonus , thanks for showing us around nuggs had a good time and we will have to do it again soon mate .

ps. all fish were released apart from the second jack which is dinner

    cheers nico

Nice work fellas, normally I go fishing with Nugg and he catches all the fish, now Nugg goes with you fellas and he misses out! Jacks and tarpon would have me pretty pleased, especially on the plastics. Great report Nico

No mate, had a day off yesterday, went out this morning for a couple of GT's and my mate got a couple of Jew.

Gee there's been a lot of Jacks caught lately. Your 2 are the sixth and seventh legitimate fish that I know of caught in the last 2 weeks.

    Good job.

    Jeff.

I'm amazed he let you put the boat back on the trailer! When it comes to the fish Nugg doesn't have an off switch, he just keeps going til he gets one.
