    Hi Vis Line Question??

Howdy all, I have a question of those in the know. I was intending to purchase some Momoi Hi Vis 24kg mono to spool up my new tld 50.

If buy a 1000 yard spool I going to have a little left over. Now my question is will the yellow hi vis mono be invisable under water as I intend to use the left over line a leader on some of my lighter rigs? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers, Jado

No, that stuff will be far from invisible, not suitable for leader.

At the moment nothing is completely invisible but the closest to it is clear fluorocarbon, even clear mono doesn't come close to FC.

Excellent, Thankyou plaztix. I will look a bit harder and try and find some clear stuff.

Mate what depth are you going to be fishing in because i just came back from a charter where mate was using tld25 with 55lb mono and even in 50m 0f water had trouble getting any feeling of what was happening, e.g bottom, bites.I ended up top lining my tld25 with 65lb braid for him to use and all of a sudden he could feel everything.

    Re: Hi Vis Line Question??

Yellow is a colour that shows up very well at depth. I have some video shot by a diver at 60m without the use of artificial lights, the yellow of the dive tanks is the strongest colour visible.
In my experience some fish are not put off by coloured line but others definitely are, my preference is always to go for clear leaders and on fussy fish fluoro is the go.

    Re: Hi Vis Line Question??

I see this Cajun Red line in the shops (Shakespear brand I think) which claims that red is the first colour of the spectrum to 'fade/ disappear' under water. From what I can remember from Science class at school (last century) red IS the first colour of the spectrum, but what significance should that have? Any ideas- I'm a mental midget when it comes to this technical stuff.
Gimme a .308 and a boar on the run and I'll show ya! ;-)

    Re: Hi Vis Line Question??

red is the first colour to "disappear", it is due to to filtering of the light and the length of the individual colour light waves. The colour of red when under water ( depends on clarity of the water and depth) becomes a brownish colour (the object doesn't disappear it appears to be another colour) but if lit with a torch you will see the true colour of the object, and as you go deeper other colours will start to "disappear" as well in line with ROYGBIV (spectrum).

as for the correct line, I haven't caught a decent fish in months so don't ask me cause I haven't got it, but I want some.

    Re: Hi Vis Line Question??

    Jado,

My advise is buyer yourself a decent braided line as a main ie. berkley Fireline or Tuff line or Sunline.

Always use flurocarbon as a leader. That way you cover all bases for certain fussy fish ie. BReam.

If you want to run surface lures, or popers, i would sugest you run mono. It keeps the lure floating as mono doesnt sink as much as fluro.

    hope this helps.
