EPIRBs, Who changes the batteries, or are the new ones throwaway items?

    Hi

My GME MT 400 EPIRB battery life is up to April 2009 so who do you get to replace the batteries in GME MT 400 EPIRB when the time comes or are these now redundant?

I see GME advises getting rid of batteries at Battery World so do they (Battery World) fit new ones too?

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers

GME should be able to replace the battery, or point you to an approved service agent.

    BRISBANE Sales Office
    Unit 1, 89 - 101 Factory Rd.

    1. As of August 2004 All Epirb's MUST be serviced by approved and authorized agents only.

    2. Battery World would have to be approved and certified by the manufacturer of the particular model.

I would expect the retailer you bought the EPIRB from should be able to arrange for the battery service.

When my old PW was due for a (free) battery I took it back to the boat yard I bought it from. They sent it off to PW and it was back in about a week if I remember correctly. PW do a check over of the EPIRB as well as the battery replacement. They replaced the rubber band that held the rope tether in place I remember that. I would think that GME would offer a similar sort of battery service via their retailers.

    Cheers
