Thread: How many rods do you fish with @ one time?

Cool How many rods do you fish with @ one time?

I feel a bit silly sometimes when i take enough rods fishing to invade a small army

Slowly have dropped down to taking 3 personal rods, 2 I fish with and 1 as a backup.

good question mate. I always take a spinning setup incase i come across a school of tuna or macks, then a flick stick for SP. A bait rod incase and always have a big gun in the boat for trolling. So 4 I guess.

Have been caught out couple times but. Have 3 rods down and they all go off at once! Good to be prepared for anything but i reckon. Save changing rigs out on the water.

    how many rods (lines) hooks
well when this new stuff comes in (October) you will be allowed to fish with one rod (line) and only one hook I believe and if you have a rod or line rigged in the boat with a hook on it other than the one you are using you can be fined according to the rules.?????? that is if you can find a place worth fishing in. ummMMm

Re: How many rods do you fish with @ one time?

I take about 4 as well, one for bait, one to troll, spin, and a flickstick as well, but I only ever use 2 at once.

Jimbo, I believe the rules in the "yellow zones' will be much the same as up here. One rod, with one hook attached. Though the one hook can mean up to 6 hooks joined by some sort of cable, ie wire, line or ganged that can only go into one bait, intended to catch one fish at a time. You can have as many rods rigged up ready to go as you like, as long at you don't have more than one apparatus in the water at a time they can't touch you, though they will try until the rules are widely known, but don't give in to them, as soon as you admit fault, it will be open slather.

I've asked the same question of The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, who govern the zoning and they were the anwers I got. When fishing over shallow reef, I keep one rod in the water and another with the same rig in the boat. Given the number of bustoffs that happen, when they do occur, I use the spare whilst I re rig the bust off and swap everytime i get a bust off.

Same as being in a "green zone" you can have as many rods as you like rigged, and any amount of fishing equipment on board, but as long as they stay in the boat, you're doing nothing wrong. The second a hook touches the water though, whether baited or not, if its attached to a line, then its illegal.

Like I said, those rules are for NQ, so make sure you read up on yours when they come into play and don't be scared to challenge them, or at the beginning 'play dumb' for the first few weeks at least they might let you off.

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

Re: How many rods do you fish with @ one time?

If bait fishing in 120 ft or less I will fish four, three baitrunners set in a three way holder for floating baits and one in my hand bottom bashing, other rigs in the boat will be a soft plastic setup and a deep water jig setup as well as a couple of winches if we can get wide.If the son is along that is doubled (baring the winches),if a visitor comes along I genneraly drop back to two floaters and fix them up with one of my baitrunners and an old overhead for floating and dig up something for them to fish the bottom.

Re: How many rods do you fish with @ one time?

i use one rod at any time (casting lures, havent fished anything else for over six months)

But i take 4 -5 rods, 3 setup with different bream lures and 2 with heavier plastics (jack rods in the warmer months)/ or one heavier rod and one baitcaster (if fishing flatties/bass )

Re: How many rods do you fish with @ one time?

Trolling, up to 4 until fish located then 2 or 1 depending on the action.

Bait fishing, generally 2 but reduce to 1 if the bite warrants it.

Casting, 3 one in use, 1 backup and 1 rigged for casting at surface breaking schools.

    Some outfits do double duty.

Re: How many rods do you fish with @ one time?

depends when i am fishing and what for, if its bream fishing on my boat i have 1 light plastic rod, 1 medium and 1 heavy with all different lures and one hardbody rod (1-2kg custom haha). if i am on someone elses boat i will have either 1 or 2 rods, landbased 1 or 2 rods. Reef fishing maybe 1 bait and definetly 1 plastics, it often varies on location and species for me.
