    Goaties for bait

    Hi everyone

I used to have a neighbour that owned a trawler up here in Cairns and he used to get us a box of goaties every now and again for trout fishing, but he has sold the boat and I'm a real fan of them.

Just wondering if anyone in the area knows of a friend or trawler owner that would be willing to get a few boxes of goaties for me.

Willing to negotiate a suitable price per kilo for them. He told me that they usually just throw them out because nobody wants them - but I want them .

    Cheers

Good luck with it mate. I've been trying to source them here in Townsville for ages since using them on a charter but haven't had any success at all. as far as I'm concerned they are the gun dead bait for trout, emperor and nannies, but finding them is the key.

    Thanks supertinny.

When we had them it was easy to get a really good feed of trout on them. They just go stupid for them.

How much a bag are they there?

I might have to do a special order if worse comes to worse. I'd just love to give them a go again and see how good they are. I forget nearly ha.

Does anybody out there know a trawler operator in the Cairns area?

    Anybody's help is much appreciated.

    HI guys
I just looked up the goatfish family at AMONLINE. There are quite a few of them.!
Is there a particular species that the trout go for?

    Re: Goaties for bait

I don't know the species, but they are pink, and hence also go by the name "pinkies". I'm going to see our local co-op (again) to see if they have them or can at least point me in the right direction.

Pazz, I'll let you know if I have any luck, and if they know someone in Cairns you can get them off.

    Pazz,

You are spot on with the name "Pinkies", i don't actually think they are a Goatfish species, could be wrong though. PM me your details i can get you some through the local trawler agents (I'm in the seafood biz) or you can pay two arms and two legs and get some at Ocean World out on Sheridan St.
