Hi all,
This is my first post (I've lurked here for a while though)... thanks for all the great posts and advice.
I'm new to fishing (about 4 months now) and recently bought a new setup and i'm having a shocker of a time with the braid getting tangled when i cast.
Set up is...
- Okuma Halogen 7' graphite rod
- Shimano Oceania Aernos XT 3000 reel
- 10 lb braid
I dont know the brand of braid (cost about $30). The guy in my local tackle shop choose it and put it on for me. I use about a metre or more of 12lb mono as a leader tied on with a double uniknot.
The problem I'm having is that almost EVERYTIME I cast I end up with huge knots and tangles forming in the braid.
It's driving me nuts.
A mate of mine says it could be that the shop wound the braid onto the reel too tightly... and it's "springing" off too fast. I reckon that makes sense. Or perhaps there's too much braid on the reel?
Any other suggestions on whats causing this and how to stop it?
thanks
