    Tackle Shop - Wello area

    Hi all,

Coming up that way in Sept and staying at a caravan park at Birkdale - could anyone please recommend a tackle shop in our area that we can hit???

    Thanks

Graham at Wellington Point Marine is a nice bloke and will help you out. He's got a good range of tackle as well as boating chandlery. Also, he doesn't mind having a chat to you about local fishing spots. 368 Main Road, Wellington Point. 3207 2235.

    Regards
    Brad

    G'day

Go and see Graheme at above address.

He's next to the take away and hairdresser, near Tanja's coffee shop, across from the pub.

A lot of blokes say that but when I had a walk through the shop once, I was underwhelmed at how small and pokey the shop is.

What is good about that shop as a tackle shop? I would have thought that Horse's suggestion was closer to the mark although I have never been there either.

I had a rod tip repaired at Budd's at Celeveland this week and was very pleased at the speed and cost of that but as I was waiting I had a look around and I came out thinking that they do not carry as much stock as they used to. They are however, a true tackle shop.

I havent been for a while but I remember Budds and Grahams as having lower end range of gear. Both very helpfull though. Fish head at Victoria point is the definate pick of the bunch IMO. Highest possible quality of service, advice and products. They have a website, just google them.

Wello pt. Stock the lower to mid range, but specialize in chandlery,

Budds is primarily tackle, of all the ranges, with FishHead mid to high end.

All shops have expert advice from people who actually are.

    G'day Charlie

This is a good point you make. The shop is pretty small and jam packed with a variety of stuff.

I agree the tackle side of things has it's limitations but I guess it depends on what you're after. IMO, terminal tackle and soft plastics are well covered - this is what I often get. Graham can source items he doesn't have in stock but this often isn't convenient as I like to check out the item before buying it or need it straight away.

If it was a new rod, reel, or certain lures I was chasing, then Fishhead would be the place to go. I've always had excellent service there and they have top gear as well.

Wellington Point Marine would be the closest to Birkdale which is where Bear is staying.

Although it wasn't Bear's question, I've found Wellington Point Marine very good for chandlery.

I can't comment on Budd's as I haven't dropped in there for years.

See Duncan or Gordon at Fish Head at Victoria Point. The knowledge and range there is pretty awesome.

Re: Tackle Shop - Wello area

Thanks all for your suggestions. I probably should have specified what we were after.

Not after rods & reels (already have too many), just some terminal tackle/SP's and even some basic chandlery like a flare kit etc.

Thanks again for your replies. As per usual, as soon as we pull up we will be busting just to get on the water, so the quicker we locate some basics to top up our kit, we'll be off!!!!!!

if you are at birkdale you are blessed with many choices.

the above indipendents all have their strengths, the are two major chains in capalaba and the kmart there has good stocks of tacke.

as far as chandlery, there is a bias just up the rd at tingapla and glasscraft down at queensport.

    cheers
